Outreach & Inreach
We recognize our service to one another, our community, and the world as fundamental to our life in Christ.
C.A.S.E.
The Community Alliance to Support and Empower (C.A.S.E.) is a community outreach to our neighbors in El Segundo. We offer and bless non-perishable foods and household supplies on the third Sunday of each month to support this ministry.
Family Promise
Family Promise is an amazing outreach and unique in keeping homeless families with children together by not separating the fathers and teenage boys from the rest of their family. Family Promise is a community-based approach to solving homelessness, engaging the local community as well as faith-based organizations in an effort to effectively remedy family homelessness. Families receive a full complement of resources, support, and training as they work towards their own stability and self-reliance.
From 2015 through April 2020, St. Michael’s and El Segundo United Methodist Church partnered together in the Family Promise program. We were two of about thirty congregations in the network of churches that made up Family Promise of the South Bay.
Our two congregations worked together by providing four families temporary housing and meals for weeklong rotations quarterly during the year. The families were housed at the Methodist Church where volunteers turned Sunday school rooms into family bedrooms for the week. Both congregations worked together to provide all meals and the 50 volunteers we needed each host week. In response to COVID-19 and staying safer at home, the church rotation program ended in April, 2020.
Today, Family Promise of the South Bay provides housing for 11 homeless families with children at a time with 4 families sheltered in the Family Resource & Respite Center in San Pedro and 7 families in transitional houses.
Since April 2020, St. Michael’s supports Family Promise fundraisers, including our own Bunco Night. We help to support summer camp, youth nights, and holiday themed celebrations throughout the year.
Episcopal Relief and Development
St. Michael's contributes to the disaster relief and development ministries through regular donations to this national Episcopal Church relief agency.
Rise Against Hunger
Once a year we participate with El Segundo Methodist Church in a Rise Against Hunger Experience event. This fun and educational experience allows us to lend a hand to people in critical need across the globe. It's fun for all ages (5 and up) and meaningful work.
St. Michael’s Children’s Center
Our renowned Children’s Center serves newborn infants to pre-school age 5 in the El Segundo community. We are part of the community of Episcopal Schools in the Diocese of Los Angeles currently serving more than 9,000 children whose racial, ethnic, and religious backgrounds reflect the exciting and enriching diversity of Southern California. We foster to encourage our children with spiritual understanding through teachings and chapel every week.
